Welcome to SJR Growers Co
We are a family-run micro nursery growing specialty vegetable starts, drought-tolerant plants, and succulents in small batches. We focus on resilient plants for real gardens — especially in dry climates where water and heat matter. As the Next Generation, our kids are part of the process as young growers, and so is the learning that comes with every season.
Our Story
What started as a fun family garden quickly turned into… a lot of plants. Like, a lot. As first-generation growers and military veterans, my wife and I had no roadmap — just curiosity, a growing obsession with rare and native varieties, and kids who were suddenly very interested in what was happening in the backyard. What began as "whoops, we grew too many plants" became "okay, we've got this" — and SJR Growers Co was born.
We grow alongside our children and our community, with hands-on work that is always evolving — often with kids nearby learning, planting, and helping shape what we grow next season. This is a living process for us, not a polished production line.
We specialize in specialty vegetable starts, drought-tolerant plants, and succulents chosen for resilience in arid climates and real-life growing conditions with an emphasis on practicality, flavor, and longevity. Everything we offer is started and tended in small batches with care and attention, because we believe plants should be accessible, adaptable, and rewarding to grow — even in challenging spaces.
We're here for gardeners who want plants that can handle heat, conserve water, and still produce something meaningful — whether that's food, structure, or calm in a busy space.

What We Grow
Our catalog spans a wide range of specialty plants — many grown from seed and all are chosen with intention for flavor, resilience, and adaptability to desert climates.
Our current batches include a mix of:
- Specialty cherry, paste, and beefsteak tomatoes
- Fun and unique pepper varieties — from mild to superhot
- Native plants grown from seed, selected for desert adaptation and ecological value
- Flowers — pollinator-friendly and desert-hardy varieties
- Limited experimental heirlooms
Exact varieties are released in small batches and may be shared at pickup or delivery. These plants are part of our ongoing trial process to identify what performs best in our climate.
